Setiap tahun, ada satu pertandingan unik berlangsung di Jepun iaitu pertandingan mengetam kayu paling nipis. Acara ini diadakan setiap tahun semasa pesta Kezuroukai. Setiap peserta diberi peluang mengetam sebanyak 3 kali dan hasil ketaman yang paling nipis adalah pemenangnya. Mereka mengetam hanya menggunakan teknik dan alatan tradisional. Tahap power dorg ni boleh sampai ke tahap nipis 9 micron.
FYI, rambut manusia adalah 100 micron. Dan yg lebih mengkagumkan, rekod dunia mengetam kayu adalah 3 micron..!! Itu adalah lebih nipis dari sel darah.
Every year this planing competition is held in a different region in Japan. In November 2012 it was held on the island of Shikoku, in the port city of Uwajima. I accompanied a small group of Americans to the festival and we were amazed at the enthusiasm and overwhelming dedication to making nothing but the perfect shaving.
