Kerry Washington married American football star and actor Nnamdi Asomugha last month.
The Scandal actress, 36, held a secret ceremony in Blaine County, Idaho on June 24 with her new husband, according to E! Online.
The website reports the couple exchanged vows after a year of dating.
Sports gossip website TerezOwens.com was first to report the news.
Nnamdi is a cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers. He has also appeared in a handful of US television shows, including Friday Night Lights, The Game and Leverage.
His relationship with Kerry first went public last summer.
This is the actress' first marriage.
She was previously engaged to actor David Moscow. The former couple split in 2007.
Kerry has remained elusive about her relationship with Nnamdi.
Four days before the purported nuptials the actress announced she was taking an extended break from Twitter.
"Tweeples! Im taking a tweet break WHAT?!..Yup! U will NOT hear from me 4 a month, but know that Im thinking of u #Gladiators w/much LUV!" she wrote.
She has offered sporadic messages since then, revealing on July 2 she was on a mystery vacation.
"Uhm... Can I break my twitter hiatus just one more time?! LOL. (But this will be IT until my vacay is over DAGNABIT!)," she mused.
Kerry shared her philosophy about relationships in an earlier interview with Essence magazine.
"I think the message of this film is to really be yourself," she said of her feature-length comedy, Peeples. ".and to love other people for who they really are."
